2 / About Inclusive Leadership

The UWG Inclusive Leadership Series is a set of courses designed to build skills based competencies unique to the fast growth, changing demographically in the US and global workforce. Inclusive leadership’s foundations are based on the Hudson Institute’s groundbreaking report Workforce 2000. The recommendations were the first to address how to lead and manage the growing female and ethnic minority populations in new and different ways. UWG’s 6 Demographic Strands model moves beyond just race and gender, and focuses on the top workforce groups globally: 1. Gender 2. Age 3. Sexual Orientation 4. Religion 5. Race/Ethnicity/ Immigration 6. Disability Inclusive Leadership impact includes: • Building a culture of inclusion • Improving employee engagement levels • Driving higher levels of team performance • Improving workplace morale and productivity • Unleashing creativity, diversity of thought and innovation • Ensuring fair and equitable inclusion of major demographic groups, in key talent lifecycle activities such as: o Hiring and Recruitment o Leadership development o High Potential talent selection o Mentorship and Sponsorship o Promotions o Succession planning o Senior leadership and Board representation In this unique moment of global reflection, and given the elevation of racial strife, corporations are requesting the tools of Inclusive Leadership to better engage all members of the workplace, particularly black employees and their allies.

3 / The 3P’s P.L.U.S of Inclusive Leadership

The 3P’s of Inclusive Leadership are driven by leading research institutions from Harvard University to Catalyst (gender focused leadership institute). The 3Ps are: • Physiology (human body dynamics) • Personality (traits) • People (culture) Physiology deals with the brain/neuroscience (unconscious bias), the heart/emotions (emotio nal intelligence) and the voice/communications (micro aggressions). Personality is based on research showing that organizations should build up leadership traits such as commitment, courage, creativity and collaboration. People focuses on culture including different cultures (cultural-competence) unintentional exclusion in work networks (inclusive work networks) and diversity business blindspots in the workplace and marketplace (Diversity Return on Investment). P.L.U.S. refers to People Living under stress in the Covid world. The stress pre-Covid was episodic stress (at various moments in life) such as a work deadline, or preparation for an important meeting. The current stress is episodic or 24/7 and impacts beyond pre-Covid different dimensions of diversity (6 Strands, socio-economic, organizational tenure, education, marital status); to new dimensions (mental health and safety, frontline worker in the family, caregiver status, homelife situation).

Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Practice

PHILOSOPHY

Our cultures and communities are dynamic. They buzz with stories, customs, and experiences so powerfully compelling they cannot, should not, be contained. Yet, they remain barely seen and understood by the “mainstream.” That’s why we tap into our own diverse experiences. Invigorate them with ingenuity, passion, and new perspectives. Then share them using captivating (and effective) approaches. Because we’re here to unleash the dynamic – the richness, the nuance, the complexity of our cultures – on the world.
